Welcome!


This is a collection of fanfiction from writers who care about the quality of their work and have a passionate love for their fandoms.
 
The fandoms are as varied as the writers themselves and the stories are of a variety of genres suitable for young teens. Each story posted here is selected with care. We pay as much attention to whether or not the story is a good read as to technical correctness and closeness to canon.

We write fanfiction because it gives us a way to explore the worlds created by the authors of our favourite books and films more fully, filling in the gaps between events and giving backgrounds to those minor characters who have caught our attention. For this reason, most authors tolerate fanfiction writing because the fans are more inclined to buy more of the books written by the authors to use as source material for their stories. As long as we credit the original authors for the works we are using as source material, there is no breach of copyright. 

The purpose of this website is to showcase the best writing on the internet, to spare the reader the chore of digging through stories of variable quality elsewhere. There are other high-quality archives, of course, but they usually specialise in particular fandoms. Here, there is a variety of them so that readers will have a chance to sample works from unfamiliar authors.  

 

 

Fandoms

We currently have five fandoms: Discworld, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Silmarillion and Star Trek: The Next Generation. 
 
Hopefully, we'll have more to add to the list soon.  
 
 
 

Writing Challenge

All of the writing challenges and contests run through this website will be announced on the Updates page from now on. Feel free to leave comments on the entries there.

The challenges run monthly, but the Golden Quill Awards is intended to be annual. Details will be announced later on.

In every case, the stories can be any fandom, and genre, any length. The best stories entered will be posted here on the Archives of Excellence. 


 

 

 

 

Recommend a Friend

Do you know a great author whose stories ought to be added to our archives? Please send details to the email below. We will contact the author and ask for permission to list and link his or her stories here.

Please include the fandom, the title and a brief summary with it, and tell us a little about the author and where else the stories and other works are posted. This information will then be included in the author's profile page, which you can access by clicking on their names in the Directory. Any artwork the author has produced can be showcased in a gallery of his or her own, so tell us about it - and any other things that you would like to have promoted here. 

The owners of the servers where this website is hosted object to porn, so stories that  are unsuitable for young teens can't be linked here. Stories with allusions to  subjects that may make some of us uncomfortable are welcome as long as the content is not graphic. 

While we usually list and link stories on a page linked to the writers' profiles, we are happy to host stories here that are not posted elsewhere. There's plenty of room for this.
